Going to Greece

Going to Greece….going to Greece….going to Greece…going to Greece. I’ve been saying those words for months, and suddenly, in 48 hours Mike and I will be on an airplane flying across the ocean! It is unbelieveable.

Another number is 21. Years since we were last in Greece. My Dad, Ang Adams, took as many of us as could come, to Greece in 1988. Apparently, he wanted to take us to see the village where he was born. It was also a vacation, so we stayed at a small resort called Tolo and from there, we toured Mycenae, Epidaurus and went to Tripoli and Kerasitsa. The “we” included my parents, Ang and Betty Adams; my sister Susan and her husband at the time, Richard; my brother Mark and children Jama and Andrew; my sister Marian who joined us from her summer studying in Paris; Mike and I and daughters Jennifer and Amelia. Also included, my Dad’s sister Jen; her daughter and husband, Thayae and Ralph and sons Adam and Brett; and daughter Michelle and brand new husband Mike! We all went to Mike and Michelle’s wedding in Chicago and then we all went to Greece!! 19 people!

Two: the number of times I’ve used Honey Lights for a blog or web site title. The first time is for the site I created about Ang & Betty Adams’ World War II life, with letters from Ang to Betty, and Betty’s diary entries.

The name came from the way Ang signed off on so many letters, “I love you honey.” Or sometimes beginning with “Hi Hon.” Also, because of the plaque that we presented to Ang in 1988 when he took us to Greece—it had a picture of him with a quote from the Oddyssey—“Great Captain, a fair wind and the honey lights of home are all you seek.”So there you go. Honey Lights. I love the sound of it.

On this trip, we are flying to Athens to meet Elena who has been studying on the island of Rhodes since February. We’ll “do” Athens. Probably Dephi. Then cross the Corinth canal to the Pelopenese to see the sites and go to Tripoli to spend time with family, Georgia and Sotiris and take Elena to see Kerasitsa, where her Grandfather was born. I’ll be looking for Greek honey to bring home and maybe place jars in all the places they can catch the light!

But first, I have to do laundry and pack!
